D.O's : Physicians Treating People, Not Just Symptoms

Interested in Becoming a D.O.?
American Association of Colleges of Osteopathy

The Trustees of William Carey University, with campuses in Hattiesburg and Biloxi, Mississippi as well as New Orleans, Louisiana has embarked upon the process of beginning a  regional college of osteopathic medicine (COM) on their Hattiesburg Campus. The Mississippi Osteopathic Medical Association has whole-heartedly endorsed this effort.

MOMA has applied for, and been granted, a new 501 (c)(3) educational foundation, the "Gulf States Osteopathic Medical Educational Foundation." We have invited our colleagues from AL, AR, and LA to participate on its Board of Governors.

Please help us to welcome the new Dean of the William Carey University's College of Osteopathic Medicine, Michael K. Murphy, DO, FAOCOPM to Mississippi.

As part of the application process, William Carey has asked us to survey our members to (1) assess organizational support of this venture, and (2) seek your input and involvement.

Please forward this to your osteopathic colleagues.   In order to participate in this survey, click here:   Mississippi COM Survey

 Many thanks,

  Jeffrey J. LeBoeuf, CAE

  Executive Director

Patients and Lawsuits
Reginald Stewart, D.O.

Below is an example of a letter which was designed specifically for Mississippi D.O's facing lawsuits arising from Lawyer advertisements for diet drugs etc.
This letter was prepared by an attorney, who suggested that it should be sent to patients who are contemplating responding, or who have already responded, to the ads placed by lawyers in print media, and so forth.
Such action by patients causes a conflict in interest for the D.O. when named within the lawsuit.

Conflict of Interest Letter

The following statement was provided by Tommy Hughes, D.O.  This statement may be used by a patient to remove their doctor from the lawsuit.  Often patients are not aware that the doctor is also named in the lawsuits, believing they are only suing the pharmaceutical company.

Statement to Remove Doctor from Lawsuit

Thanks to Dr.'s Stewart and Hughes for sharing these documents with us.
